SUPERSPORT::: RONALDO SENT OFF AS REAL MADRID BEAT BARCELONA

Image
Real Madrid seized the advantage in the first of their two-legged Supercopa de Espana clash with Barcelona on Sunday night by defeating their bitter rivals 3-1 at the Camp Nou. The victory was, however, bitter sweet as star man Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off for diving minutes after he scored a stunning goal. After a goalless first half, a Gerard Pique own-goal in the 50th minute gave Zinedin Zidane's men a lead they held onto until the 77th minute when Lionel Messi hit the target from the penalty spot. An inspired play from Isco and Ronaldo ended with the Portuguese forward restoring Real's lead with a stunning strike in the 80th minute. He, however, went straight into the referee's book for taking off his shirt while celebrating the strike. Two minutes after he received a second yellow card after the referee adjudged him to have dived to con a penalty out of the official. But Real Madrid would not be denied and went on to grab a third goal

When should a red card be given?

Image
I’ve been asked this question so many times that I’ve lost count. The answer? There is no right or wrong time to issue a yellow card or a red card. The correct time is when it is required and justified. There has long been an argument or discussion that a referee shouldn’t issue cards too early in the game because it leaves him no option, especially if it’s yellow, to then give the second yellow and ultimately a red. What does that do? Well according to the soccer aficionados it “spoils the game” when one team has more players on the pitch than the other. Possibly, although I’ve seen teams play better with 10 instead of eleven at times. These same “experts” are only thinking from the players' point of view, with ex-players often weighing in on this debate, and not from the general public, who pay good money to either attend the games or watch on television. Fans pay enormous ticket prices in some cases to be entertained and watch certain over-paid, over-rated,

Chelsea stunned; City win, Reds held (latest)

Image
Sam Vokes scored twice as Burnley torpedoed defending champions Chelsea 3-2 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday in one of the most sensational opening-weekend results in English top-flight history. Chelsea had captain Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas sent off and Burnley took full advantage through Vokes's brace and a superb Stephen Ward effort, with goals from Alvaro Morata and David Luiz coming in vain. Leicester City lost 2-1 at Hull City on the first day last season, but given the unexpected nature of their title win, this was the biggest opening-day shock since Manchester United's 3-1 loss at Aston Villa in 1995. "It was a pity because our fight in the second half was very good," said Chelsea manager Antonio Conte. "But our first half, we kept losing our heads. After the red card we lost our heads, conceded two goals and then it's very difficult to change the final result." Big-spending Manchester City won 2-0 at promoted Brighton and Hove Al

BEN MURRAY-BRUCE REVEALS PRESIDENT BUHARI'S ARRIVAL DATE

Image
Senator representing Bayelsa East, Ben Murray-Bruce yesterday, hinted that President Muhammadu Buhari was expected back in the country next week. In an interview with Vanguard, he complained about the continued hardship in Nigeria and how the country was lagging behind in its development. According to him, "Nigeria has not really made any progress in the last 2  years. I think we are in big trouble right now. "When the President gets back, we would need to sit down with him and have a conversation. There is no point having a conversation with anybody who is not a president. "I am thinking the Senate. We will have a conversation. A bipartisan team will go and meet with Mr. President and have a conversation with him. Not APC senators meeting the president but the Senate meeting him and have a conversation on the future of Nigeria. "That’s what I am gonna propose. That we sit down with him and discuss the issues.

IGBO TRADERS IN LAGOS WARN KANU TO STAY AWAY FROM LAGOS

Image
Igbo leaders and traders in Lagos have warned the director of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, not to come to Lagos state to stage any of his rallies. Kanu last month, disclosed his plans to come to Lagos. Speaking with Sunday Telegraph, Chief Chiemeka Ibeh of Alaba Amalgamated Traders Association, said the IPOB leader should leave Igbos in Lagos alone because his visit will create the impression that Igbos in Lagos are supporting Kanu and IPOB activities. "He should keep his Biafra in the East where our unemployed youths are following him all over the place, not knowing what they are dabbling into. Most of these youth do not understand what Biafra is about and what it has cost Igbo people. Since his actions led to the quit notice by the Arewa youths, I expected Kanu to have paid upfront all transport companies on the northern route to be conveying Igbo people who might be interested in coming back to the East, but he has not paid a kobo

How To Treat Shortsite Eyes Easy

Image
How to Take Care of Your Eyes Diet and regular upkeep are two important factors in taking care of your eyes. Eye exercises can restore your sight. Your eyes are the window to the world. It's important that you take care of them. 1. Eat lots of fruits and veggies! Carrots, loaded with beta carotene are especially helpful in maintaining healthy eyes. That's because beta carotene is an antioxidant that reduces the risk of macular degeneration. Broccoli, bell peppers, and brussels sprouts are also great for your eyes, containing lots of vitamin C. Okay, they're not the greatest tasting vegetables in the world (or maybe you love them, in which case good for you!) so dip them in hummus or other yummy yogurt spreads to make them palatable. Wild salmon and sardines are also healthy options for your eyes. That's because they contain omega-3 fats, which are the good fats for your body. These omega-3s protect tiny blood vessels in the eyes. Sweet pot

NORTH KOREAN PRESIDENT DECLARES READINESS TO FIRE NUCLEAR MISSILE AT THE UNITED STATES

Image
North Korea has declared its readiness to teach the United States a "severe lesson" with its strategic nuclear force if it takes military action against it. The Asian nation also said it will not put its nuclear program or its missiles on the negotiating table. This was contained in a statement after a regional meeting on Monday. In a transcript of a statement by Foreign Minister, Ri Yong-ho, which was distributed to media in Manila, North Korea described new U.N. sanctions as "fabricated" and warned there would be "strong follow-up measures" and acts of justice. North Korea said the resolution showed the United Nations had abused its authority. It said its intercontinental ballistic missile tests in July proved that the entire United States was in its firing range, and those missiles were a legitimate means of self-defense.
