Two (2) Boko Haram commanders, physician surrender to Army

Maj.-Gen. Rogers Nicholas, the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, said two Boko Haram commanders and the insurgents’ physician have surrendered to Nigerian Army. He made the disclosure when he presented the surrendered insurgents in Maiduguri. Nicholas said a woman leader of the insurgents’ group and three children also surrendered to the troops at Kumshe in Bama Local Government Area of Borno. He added that the insurgents voluntarily surrendered, noting that the move was acceptable under the Safe Corridor Scheme initiated by Federal Government to encourage the insurgents to lay down their arms. The theatre commander explained that the military initiated contact with the insurgents to encourage them to surrender, adding that more insurgents had indicated their interest to lay down their arms. 2018 Budget: Approved Bauchi state govt to complete all ongoing projects

The  Bauchi state government has promised to complete all ongoing projects in the 2018 fiscal year to ensure sustainable development in the state.‎ The state commissioner of Finance and Economic Development, Alhaji Garba Sarki Akuyam disclosed this Tuesday at a briefing  on the 2018 appropriation bill signed into law by Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar. He explained that with the signing of the budget, people of the state should expect execution of more developmental projects and programmes in all parts of the state. Akuyam said that the state government will also embark on construction of rural roads across the state as well as the mechanisation of agriculture to enhance food security in the state. The commissioner disclosed that the 2018 budget was N167,899,220,800 billion which comprises of N99,936,650,43 billion capital expenditure and N67,962,570,757 billion recurrent expenditure. Nigeria Police recover illegal arms, ammunitions from bandits, others in Bauchi

Police in Bauchi state have recovered a cache of illegal firearms and ammunitions from‎ bandits and other suspects across the state. Addressing journalist at the police headquarters in Bauchi Tuesday, the command's spokesperson, DSP Kamal Datti disclosed that the illegal arms recovery‎ was a concerted effort following the 21 days ultimatum given by the Inspector General Of Police (IGP), Ibrahim K. Idris in February. According to him, the order which was extended to 30th April,2018 directed individuals and groups in possession of prohibited and illegal‎ firearms to surrender them to the state commissioners of police. He said that State commissioners of police and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were also dire‎cted to set up a Joint Task Enforcement Team to mop up, seize and recover all illegal arms in wrong hands. 11 IDPs die in Rann fire in Maiduguri

Eleven displaced people died and dozens sustained burns following a fire outbreak at an IDPs camp in Rann, Kala-Balge local government area of Borno state yesterday. Officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and health workers said the fire incident started at 10.27am and lasted to about 3pm at the displaced persons camp in Rann, the headquarters of the Kala- Balge LGA.They said children and women were severely affected by the fire. A medic who works with a humanitarian aids group told Daily Trust, “We have counted at least 11 displaced persons who died. Many were severely burnt and are currently in critical conditions; we are trying our best to restore them. He said the fire could not be put out early mainly because of shortage of water at the camp. “We are facing many challenges here, “ the medic said. STATES are to get the cash they spent on federal roads, it was learnt yesterday. President Muhammadu Buhari dropped the hint during his visit to Zamfara State after Governor AbdulAziz Yari’s request for the refund of the N56 billion being owed the state on federal road projects it executed. The President said he had directed Power, Works & Housing Minister Babatunde Fashola to compile all outstanding payments of refunds to the states that implemented federal projects to specifications. The Wife of the  Vice President, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo  has advised wives of deceased security personnels to be economically self-reliant and be good parents to their children. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports, she gave the advice when wives of the deceased officers visited her as part of activities to commemorate the 2018 International Women`s Day in Abuja. Senate Accuses Bello Of Threatening Democracy

The Senate on Wednesday said several actions of Kogi State Governor, Mr.  Yahya Bello , directed at the opponent are a threat to democracy This is coming after a condemnation by the National Assembly of the recent disruption of the Senator  Ahmed Ogembe’s  empowerment  in Okene, Kogi State, allegedly on the orders of the governor with complicity of the state police command. CCT adjourns Saraki’s trial indefinitely

The  Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT)  has today adjourned indefinitely the trial of  Senate President Bukola Saraki .  Naija News  gathers The Tribunal chairman,  Danladi Umar  held in a bench ruling this morning that it is germane to await the decision of the Supreme Court on the appeals filed by both Saraki and the Federal Government on the judgement of the  Court of Appeal. Umar had asked the parties in the matter to address the tribunal on the issue of the pending appeals. International Women’s Day: Group Calls For Release Of Dapchi Girls

A coalition of women groups in the country have called on the federal government to step up efforts targeted at securing the release of about 110 school girls of  Government Girls Science Technical College, GGTC, Dapchi, Yobe State , suspected to have been kidnapped by  Boko Haram  insurgents since February 19, 2018. The group also called on members of the  National Assembly  to ensure the quick passage of the  Gender & Equal Opportunities Bill. The women group, operating under the aegis of  IndustriALL Global Union, marched round Jibowu and Yaba areas of Lagos state, demanding the unconditional release of the  Dapchi girls  as well as the  Chibok school girls  who have been in Boko Haram custody for about four years.
