Several people have been killed in a fresh attack by suspected herdsmen on Olosu, a village in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State. The Chairman of the LGA, Mr Ogwuche Olofu, told our correspondent that 17 people were killed in the attack. The herdsmen are said to have attacked the community on Monday after accusing youths in the village of attacking them. According to Mr Olofu, the attack took place about 30 minutes after he left the village next to where the camp of the herdsmen that were reportedly attacked. Apart from those that were killed, the LG chairman said many people were still missing. The police have, however, yet to confirm the number of people killed in the attack. This comes on the same day the Presidency announced that President Buhari would visit Benue, Yobe, Zamfara and Rivers states which have been affected by the herdsmen-farmers conflict. source from channel news:

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has stated that he is ready to return to his farm if the people of the state refuse him second term ticket in 2019. Ortom stated that God told him in 1992 that he would be governor and that today, the revelation had come to pass. He added that when the time was ripe for 2019, he would still return to the same ‘God’ to ask for direction. Speaking with newsmen at the weekend, the governor said he was doing his best to return Benue to her old glory. Students of the Benue State University, Makurdi on Wednesday begged Governor Samuel Ortom to resolve his dispute with their striking lecturers so that they would return to class. Mr Tersoo Dooga, President of the varsity’s Students Union Government, who led members of the executive council on a visit to the governor, urged Ortom to negotiate with the lecturers “in the interest of the  students”. “The strike has a negative effect on the students, their parents, guardians and the institution. “The strike will also affect the quality of education and frustrate the students as their graduation will be delayed,” he said. In his response, Ortom said that government had taken steps to tackle the complaints of the lecturers, and assured the students that the strike would soon be called off. Benue Govt. Begins Campaign To Increase IGRThe Benue state government has flagged off its tax and informal sector business enumeration exercise across the state with a view to shore-up its internally generated revenue by 30%. The move follows report of non-remittances of tax revenue by the informal sector and some businesses in the formal sector. The state government, at an executive council meeting presided over by Governor Samuel Ortom, constituted a committee headed by the Commissioner of Finance to fast-track its implementation and enforce compliance.
