The Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, has deployed a Joint Police Team with a mandate to wipe out kidnappers on the Abuja-Kaduna Highway. The team deployed in Rijanah, Kaduna State comprises the Special Police Force, Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Squad, Anti-Kidnapping Units, Intelligence Response Team, Special Tactical Squad, the Force Intelligence Branch, and the Police Mobile Force with Headquarters. The Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, disclosed this at a news conference on Tuesday in Abuja where he also paraded some suspected kidnappers of the mother of Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello in 2014.The Joint Police Team are under “The Joint Police Team are under a specific and definite mandate to root out the kidnap for ransom gangs and armed robbery gangs that have been terrorising the Abuja-Kaduna Highway in the recent times. The operations are to complement and augment the ongoing Joint Police/Military operations on ground before now”, he said...

There are reports of a terror attack or what is perceived as an ambush on oil exploration workers and security operatives between Magumeri and Gubio local government areas of Borno State. Sources say 10 academic and technical staff from the geology department of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) were among those said to have been abducted on Tuesday. Security operatives and some members of the civilian JTF, numbering up to 30, were also reported to have fallen into the trap of the terrorists. The attack came barely three weeks after troops of the Operation Lafiya Dole (151 Battalion) discovered freshly dug holes prepared for Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) by suspected elements o f Boko Haram terrorists.

Nigeria’s Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has restated the need for African leaders to come up with reforms that will ensure development in the oil and gas sector. Professor Osinbajo expressed confidence that such reforms would go a long way in cushioning the losses incurred as a result of the fall in the price of oil. He said this on Monday at the opening ceremony of the extra ordinary session of the Council of Ministers of African Petroleum Producers in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital. The Acting President, however, noted that the reforms must be targeted at improving oil production which is at its lowest point in recent times. He said that the volatility in the global oil market has affected the economies of various oil producing countries which consequently led to a devaluation of currencies. Nigerian pastor, Omotosho who was charged with human trafficking, sexual assault and the rape of young girls in South Africa was denied bail by the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on Monday morning. The Durban-based televangelist, who recently celebrated his 59th birthday behind bars, has been in custody since his dramatic arrest at the Port Elizabeth airport on April 20 by members of the SAPS Tactical Task Team. The pastor heard that the first available date for his second bail application on new facts would be on August 29. He is alleged to have trafficked more than 30 girls and women, who were from various branches of his church. The Presidency has given an insight into what the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors who visited the President, Muhammadu Buhari in London, on Sunday, discussed. Davido’s father Adedeji Adeleke has secured the release of two hundred prisoners in Osun state after he paid their fines. According to the vice chairman of the Springtime Development Foundation owned by Adedeji Adeleke, the foundation also provided seven hundred mattresses and pillows for inmates at the prison in Ilesha. Vice Chairman Banji Adesuyi who was at the prison on Tuesday, July 18, noted that the foundation decided to help the inmates after Adeleke visited the prison. Adesuyi expressed that Adeleke became aware of the state of the prison when he found out that some inmates were made to sleep on bare floor during his visit with All Progressives Congress chieftain, Djekola Oyedele, who was detained. The foundation also paid fines of inmates who were unable to pay fines as low as N5,000. Customs officials in Hamburg presented a record haul of 3.8 tonnes of cocaine with a street value of $920m to the media on Thursday. The haul, which originated in South America, was displayed under tight security in a military barracks in the northern port city of Hamburg. The drugs, which were stacked before the press in  colourful, shrink-wrapped plastic packages, were seized in three batches during customs operations in Hamburg’s harbour earlier in the year. The haul was the first time several tonnes of class `A’ drugs were seized by German customs.

It was terrible sight to behold for eye witness as a couple whose identity was unidentified lost their lives in a fatal accident that occured at Ajebandele area of Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital yesterday July 19th. at about 2:30 pm in the afternoon.
