Rashford nominated for Golden Boy award

Marcus Rashford has been named on a 25-man shortlist for this year’s Golden Boy award, which crowns the best young player in Europe.

The Reds forward has enjoyed a remarkable rise since making his first-team debut for the club in February 2016 and has made a strong start to 2017/18 with three goals so far this season.
The 19-year-old is one of six young Englishmen nominated for the Golden Boy accolade, along with Liverpool duo Joe Gomez and Dominic Solanke, Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, West Ham defender Reece Oxford and Tottenham’s Kyle Walker-Peters, while the inclusion of Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus means there are a total of seven Premier League players in contention.
Rashford was also nominated for the award last year, but was narrowly pipped to the prize by Bayern Munich’s Renato Sanchez, who has since joined Swansea City on loan.
Journalists from 30 major newspapers across Europe helped put together the extensive shortlist for Italian newspaper Tuttosport. Only players under the age of 21 can be nominated for the award, which was founded in 2003. The winner is set to be announced in December.
United are the only club to boast more than one previous winner, with Wayne Rooney scooping the prize in 2004 before Anderson won the award in 2008 and Anthony Martial was given the honour in 2015. Paul Pogba was also a winner while playing for Juventus in 2013.
