[CURENT NEWS TODAY] Buhari congratulates Saraki at 55

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday congratulated Senate President Bukola Saraki on his 55th birthday.
Buhari, according to a statement by his spokesman Mr Femi Adesina, joins all members of the National Assembly, friends and family in celebrating the life of a distinguished Nigerian, who has made his mark on the political scene.
He said having served as governor, senator and Senate President, Saraki had demonstrated commitment in the pursuit of a prosperous, united and peaceful Nigeria.
The president prayed that God Almighty grant Saraki more years of good health, wisdom and fulfilment in the service of God and country.

At least five civilians were killed and several others wounded in an attack by suspected Boko Haram militants in southeast Niger, near the border with Nigeria, according to local sources. “The BH (Boko Haram) came to the market place Friday evening, they shot the crowd and took food,” said a resident of Toummour, in the southwest Diffa region, which was targeted by the attack. (RECENT) Military Court Martial Sentences Soldier To Death

A soldier serving in the military counter-insurgency operation “Lafiya Dole” in north-east Nigeria, has been sentenced to death for murder, by a general court martial, sitting in Maiduguri, Borno state. Other soldiers also bagged jail sentences for various offences, ranging from manslaughter to illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Lance Corporal John Godwin, was charged for murder. He was said to have killed five civilians rescued by troops of his battalion, who were being taken for investigation, in Yamteke town, of Borno state. Another soldier, sergeant innocent Ototo, was sentenced to life imprisonment for manslaughter. He was said to have tortured to death, a 13 year old boy, at Zabarmari area of Maiduguri, whom he said stole his phone.
